From what I've been able to research, Canon (and most other digital) cameras won't function as webcams due to the drivers. A basic webcam is a TWAIN source that sends imaging data via its driver, which instant messasging or netmeeting software interprets.
Canon's drivers, however, only function that way for Remote Capture, which has absolutely no online chat functionality.
There are drivers on the net, utilities which seek to emulate this, but your mileage may vary.
