i accidentaly pressed the format button on the menu and to my suprise erased over a hundred pics. is there any way of getting these back?

Someone asked this a year ago, and they were told that any business capable of data-recovery could get the photos. Supposedly, a good camera store photo finisher could do the job, or even a PC-repair shop.

If this is true, then these flash memory chips are similar to hard drives: Formatting doesn't erase the data; formatting merely erases the 'header info' that points the way to the data. So the data is still there, but the location data is lost. Hence the need for a computer-savvy tech.

Friend of mine did this a while back. Bought some software on ebay for about $20. He had lost about 300 pics. Downloaded the software, set it to work on his card (either xd or cf) and 5 hours later he had his pictures back. Will check for name of software but make sure it is capable of recovering from a format as it seems to be different from a basic delete.
