Seems to me me, that you have to update your OS (windows XP?) to latest servicepacks and updates.

To users of ZoomBrowser EX 2.x/3.x:
- In order to update to ZoomBrowser EX 5.8, it is necessary that ZoomBrowser EX 2 or 3 is already installed on the target computer.

Have all updates for XP. It just stops on the install for Zoom. The other two products on the disk were installed.

Have you tried to download and install, instead of installing from your cd? Maybe you have a bad sector on your cd.

Sorry, but i need access to your pc to help you any further, every pc has it's individual set up, so it impossible to tell what is, and what is not, in the registry on your machine. Maybe it's time to reformat it anyway? ;-)

Thanks for trying to help! I read on some, site, somewhere something about the Registry having some kind of "lockout" for certain Registry entries. I just can't find the article and probably need to change something in the Registry, and with my luck totally destroy my computer!!!

Definitely call Canon. They should be able to provide free assistance to your product. Maybe they can even take over your computer and fix it on the phone with you.

The only thing I can think of otherwise is to see what's different between your wife's and your computer. Maybe you're missing something (or have something preventing) this software from running.

I had a similar problem. I was installing ZoomBrowser and PhotoStitch but my installation froze near the beginning (due to a computer problem, not an installation problem). When I tried later to install the canon software properly, ZoomBrowser and PhotoStitch claimed that they were already installed and "no installation is necessary" and something about "halt"ing the installation, despite the fact that nothing had actually been installed yet (the computer had first frozen when the installer had barely begun). It was therefore impossible for me to install ZoomBrowser. I couldn't even uninstall the programs because they had never actually installed in the first place.
The only way I found to fix the problem was by going into regedit and deleting all registry data that had the word 'canon' in them (and entire keys if the only data they contained was 'canon'). After that, the installation worked fine.
If you do this, do it at your own risk. Make sure that each registry key that you delete really is refering to the canon software, and make sure to back up the registry first.
