I dropped my camera and since then the lens doesn't work properly. It comes out and immediately goes back in. Started with an error code 24, now is error code 00

Since you've dropped it, chances are your lens is off track. You're probably looking at a service call for it. It may also be a loosened wire to the LCD. But since you've dropped it, chances are that you regardless of the damage, they will judge it being as a result of the impact and not covered under warranty. Recommend requesting an estimate and if the cost is north of 50% what you paid for it, simply buy a new one - the SD850 is the latest model.

Thank you for your suggestions. I have sent the camera in and am waiting for the results. I will request an estimate and then, as you say, determine whether it is worth fixing. Thank you again.

Why not get a new sd700is? Is the 850 better, not just because it is newer but because it is better? It's more megapixels but on the same sensor. There's only one review of it to date on cnet but the 700 is so good.

Well here's the reality of it. Additional MP is good, but if all your taking is snapshots up to 5x7 or even 8x10, then the extra MP won't really have an impact. It'll really make it's mark as you go to 11x14 and beyond. But how often will that be?
