SD 700 IS vs. SD800 IS ???

I can get the SD700 IS for $429 Canadian vs. the SD800 IS for $499 Canadian. Even if they were the same price I have read some reviews that state that the SD700 has a better picture output that the SD800? I hear there is more noise with the SD800?

Is there anyone who has scruitinized both? Anyone tried both? Any thoughts?

The main difference between those cameras is the lens. SD800 has a wide angle lens that makes it really usable for indoor, group and architecture photography.

I would opt for the 700. The features are about the same. The 1 meg difference in the picture is not enough to make a big difference. I don't like the dial on the 800. There may be a tendency to move when getting it out of a case. My thumb tends to rest on the dial when in a normal place and causes the icon for choices to come up on the screen. Not a big thing because when you push the shutter button it takes the picture anyway. The faces feature may be nice.

I own the 700. I looked at the 800 closely in the store.

The dial that might move when coming out of the case is the one that chooses whether the camera is in review, auto, manual mode, etc

I choose the SD700, because it has (in my opinion) and results from tests, a better picture quality. Worth mentioning is the bad corner sharpness, and generally weaker glasses, on the SD800 compared to the SD700. The SD700 also has a 4x zoom. And it takes beautiful pics! I use it as backup-camera when i'm out shooting with my SLR, just in case (without any comparison). Go for the SD700.
