Can pictures be deleted any other way rather than manually deleted them? Somehow I lost my pictures and I can't explain it.

I turned on my camera and my pictures were erased. I am using a 2g scd memory card. Please respond.

You can get them back using file recovery software like F-Recovery. Google is your friend. The best thing to do is erase your card from a PC and not your camera. This will keep your card healthier and prevent corruption.

A $10 USB memory card reader will do the trick. It'll also make your file transfer as easy as a drag and drop.

Thanks! But is there any way my pictures could have been deleted rather than me deleting them myself. I just can't explain how my pictures were deleted.

Not really. Absent some bizarre reset or firmware bug that caused it. But I don't know of any. Or a fault in the card itself, which seems unlikely considering you can read it. More likely, you reformatted the card without understanding that what you were doing was formatting it.

Yes, it's free. And I've never had trouble with it. But it's not the only option out there. Everyone here has their favorites. Google free photo recovery utilities and you'll find dozens, if not hundreds.

I've had the same experience of images deleting spontaneously. The SD870 is new and I formatted the SD card (a high speed 2GB card) when I first installed it in the camera. Nevertheless, I seemingly lost the images from two separate days of shooting. Could the SD card be faulty? Or is it a bug in the camera. (None of the reviews I read prior to buying this indicated such a problem.)

Thanks in advance.

Well, it's quite possible that you have a defective card. But it's not a total loss. Do a google search for a card recovery utility. I've used "F-Recovery" and it'll enable you to recover your pictures and reformat the card. Next thing I would do is check with Canon for a service advisory. There may be a firmware update that addresses the issue.

I would love to know if you were ever successful in recovering your photos as I have a corrupt memory card and have had the expert at kits camera run 6 different recovry programs on it to try to get the pics back but to know avail. I was told that some memory cards are more prone to going bad and to stick with scandisk.
