I like to record my car, but the exhaust noise sounds muffled/distorted when played back via computer, will this camera be good for me?

I go racing one a month and would like to start recording from inside the car, but previous digi cams have all made the noise the car makes sound real distorted because of the levels of pitch coming from the car; will I have to worry about this problem with this camera?

Given the high level of noise inside a race car I think you are going to have trouble recording with most any digicam. However, I wonder if you could muffle the digicam microphone such as with a piece of foam like they use on TV News to reduce wind noise. Maybe that would reduce the level of engine noise without distorting it. If so, then the digicams you already have might do the job. Just my 2 cents worth.
Good luck with your project.

Thanks. I had borrowed a friends digi cam, but stupid me forgot to ask what kind it was. I think i remember seeing the Cybershot logo (do they make them in a dark greenish color?)

Don't know about that color, Cody. I don't think it much matters which one to use. I doubt if any of them can handle that level of noise without some kind of dampening over the microphone hole. BTW, you're not hand holding this camera while you drive are u? :)

Hah, no i am not holding the camera. Funny little trick a friend taught me (which also narrows down the size of the camera i need), i attach it to my center mirror, being held by numerous rubber bands. It worked. If you want a link of one of HIS old vids (since he deleted mine, we drive the same car though) here it is (to show that the cam i'm referring to, in which i'm sure another camera could do the same good job of not distorting the sound) : http://youtube.com/watch?v=t6wEr7MSA0E

my car is a bit louder, but again, there was no distortion/muffle going on. i already sent him a pm asking what kind it was, but he doesn't recall because some kid doing this same thing broke it some how.

thanks for answering previous questions, Larry.

Astonishing and fun video. I can see you guys take this seriously. Hope you can find a camera to do the job for you. Sorry, I just don't know much about the audio on these cameras. I do know that they don't like being vibrated, turned upside down at rapid rates and generally over heated in nitro fuel flames as depicted in several of the youtube videos!!! Seriously, you might want to look at the Olympus 790 SW which is rated military spec for dropping from a height of 5 feet and still working. I don't know about the video/sound but you can check it out by clicking on the "Resources" button near the bottom right hand corner of this page. Good luck and be SAFE.
