The date stamp function remains the same as other Canon Models and is only available in Post card mode.

It involves two steps in the setting. Step one selects the postcard mode :
Function > Recording Pixels > Post card

Step two sets the date to on/off :
Record Menu > Date off/on.

Date stamp is set to off by default and there is no way to remove the date once it is stamped on the picture.

That's a good date stamp function explanation. But what does the "post card mode" mean or imply? Does it limit any of the functionality or capabilities of the camera? I have an earlier Canon Powershot and that term is also used, but not explained. Thanks

When selected, the Postcard mode deliberately crops the image creating a slightly longer rectangle to fill a 4 x 6 postcard. When shooting in Postcard mode the camera automatically reduces the resolution to 1600 x 1200 with fine compression (an ideal setting for 4 x 6 images with no need for the user to manually set the resolution and compression). Only in this mode can you engage the time/date setting. Which, frankly, is an odd place to put it. But at least it's there.

* The camera has a built-in rechargeable lithium battery for saving settings such as the date and time. This battery is recharged by the battery pack while it is in the camera. Right after purchasing the camera, leave a charged battery pack in the camera, or plug in the AC Adapter Kit (sold separately), for about 4 hours to charge the date/time battery. It will charge even when the camera's power switch is off.
* If the Date/Time menu appears when the camera power is turned on, the date/time battery charge is low. Use the above method to recharge it.

So, Canon has wisely determined that a liOn date battery makes more sense than a small watch bat.
