Why does my new Canon SD 750 take such blurry photos?

I recently purchased a Canon SC750 after my old Canon got sand in it and didn't work anymore! I'm not sure if I have the camera on the wrong setting, but it seems like the majority of the pictures I take are blurry. I am hoping that I am just not familiar with the settings. Is there just an auto focus setting where it will take pictures and automatically focus?? Thanks fo ryou help!

PS - I'm heading to Jamaica next week and really want some good photos!

I think you're just getting used to how your camera works. Remember, often times people get blurry shots because they expect that they can "shoot from the hip" and grab a shot on the fly. They forget that shutter lag and improper framing of the image can cause the camera to blur by movement or to focus where you don't want it to. Prefocusing and panning with the action will enable you to cut that lag by as much as 80% and thinking "rule of thirds," can improve your photo taking immeasurably. Prefocus right on your main subject. With the shutter pressed half way down. Then recompose while keeping the focus locked.

Best technique with all point and shot digitals requires pressing the shutter button to the half-way point and pausing while the camera focuses. Only after the camera has focused can you proceed to press the shutter button the remainder of the way and take the picture. Even then you should be certain to maintain holding the camera still until it has completed the photo.
It is NOT an option to just press the shutter button all the way down in one motion.

ANd the nice thing about prefocusing is that you can focus exactly where you want and then recompose (with the shutter half way). Then hit the shot. All at once also causes camera shake.

Thanks for the replies. I have tried that and it helps; however, not when I am taking a picture of a group or something moving. If I try to take a picture of my dog it won't focus on that and the pic is blurry - same with a group of people. Should I change the settings? Thanks!

Well, if there's a "kids" setting I'd use that. Or even a sports setting. But like we said, prefocusing and then, while doing that you pan with the action is your best bet. But certainly the faster presets can help.

Also, you may want to look at sites like this oen which can offer tips and suggestions on books on how to shoot animals. It's certainly an art form.

Hi. I'm having the same blurry picture problem with my SD750. I have always been a Canon fanatic, but this camera is really giving me problems. Indoor pictures consistently come out blurry, and a warning picture appears on the screen saying the camera is not steady when it is. Any help or recommendations of settings besides the auto ones?? Thanks so much!

My camera is only 7 months old and just started getting BLURRY PIX. Very disappointed with Canon this time.
I was always a Canon buyer but not sure will go that way again.
