When I go to turn my camera on, it says Lens Error, Restart Camera, I tried restarting it and it doesn't work. Any suggestions?

Several things to could be happening here. 1) your battery may need to be replaced and is no longer sending enough juice to power the camera - LiOn batteries do lose capacity overtime. 2) The Lens may be out of alignment due to being dropped or bumped. Turning the camera on/off several times may cause it to work it's way back into alignment - but YOU DO NOT WANT TO FORCE THIS. 3) if you live in a humid area, humidity may be causing the camera to misbehave and placing the camera in a ziplock with a half cup of uncooked rice (no kdding) will help to try it out - the rice acts as a dessicant to draw excess moisure out of your camera. 4) lastly, the battery contacts may be smudged and a simple rubbing of them with a pencil eraser will clean them off so they can make a proper connection.

Also try resetting the camera with a hard reboot - it's in the menu settings if you can get there. Absent these, you'll probably have to send it in for servicing and repair. If that's the case, you may get an estimate that it's going to cost more to repair than it's worth. Rule of thumb states that if it costs over 50% what you paid for it, you're better off just getting a new camera.

i also have this issue. Camera turns on, gears grind and lens won't retract. I haven't tried the battery replacement. But it sounds like the gears are stuck to retract the lens? I tried getting to the menu but it shuts down before I can access.

Well, it's fairly easy to bump the camera and cause the lens to get knocked out of alignment. But what you really don't want to do is force the issue. Send it in for a repair estimate. But be mindful of this. Rule of thumb states that if the cost to repair is north of 50% what you paid for the camera originally, you're better off getting a new camera. BUt it's worth a look see from Canon to find out.
