TRYING TO DECIDE BETWEEN THE SD790 SD1200 and SD960 SD990

I am a beginner and want a camera that is easy to use, but will be able to give me professional quality pics both indoors and outdoors. Prefer 3" screen but willing to compromise for 2.5" screen if other features compensate. Want long battery life too, taking HD movies is secondary.

Well, if you want long battery life, then I'd stick with the 2.5" LCD as the only thing a 3" LCD will do is burn the battery faster. With the smaller LCD, you can use the viewfinder to compose the picture.

Here's a few places to narrow your choices. First, since there all Canons, go to the SD 790 IS Canon site. In the upper right hand corner you'll see a button for "choose the right product." Then, click on "product comparison." A popup window will let you compare up to three cameras for features. This will give you a chance to compare them side by side to see the differences, and more importantly, the similarities.

Next, check out this resource. It takes pictures with each and you can compare them side by side.

As for HD, even if you can shoot in HD, the audio still won't be all that great. Just keep in mind.
