If you want the biggest LCD screen on the Canon ultra compacts, the SD750 is 3". The 800IS has the 3.8 zoom which is a long overdue advancement for these elphs. I researched them ALL, along with several top Sony ultra-compacts, and came up with two winners: the Canon SD750 and the Sony SDC T100. But the Sony scored much higher for me, even after deducting a whole point for using their proprietary memory stick instead of the SD and another for having an F3.5 instead of 2.8 lens. I wanted the Canon to be the better camera and kept trying to give it extra points in the comparisons. The Sony has a 8.1MP, 5X ZOOM (equivalent of 35-175!!), non-retracting Carl Zeiss lens (great lens quality), much sleeker look, super BRIGHT 3" LCD, better on-screen controls (even an on-screen "help guide" for first learning it) and it also has a great image stabilation system, multiple face-detection, scene controls, and pretty all the other great features of the Canon. Some people might deduct for not having an optical viewer, but I never used that on the S100 anyway. I loved my first CANON S100 Digital Elph and swore I'd never buy anything else after that, but I've waited too long for Canon to come out with a longer zoom in their ultra-compact line. I believe one of their older models (700 maybe?) has a 4x but is without the newer face-detection, DIGIC III, etc. of their newer models, not to mention a smaller LCD. My money (which will be slightly more than Canon SD750) is going to Sony this time. So bottom line, if you gotta have a Canon, I think the SD750 is the best choice but they are all good cameras. Or try that Sony DSCT100 at the store first and you might change your mind too.

Oh I forgot to mention that the SD750 does NOT have image stabilation, which is a BIG mistake on Canon's part for such a new camera in their line. The SONY does. But so does the Canon SD800IS (that's what the IS is for). The 800IS would probably give you better pictures overall, but it didn't even come close in features for me to the SD750. So the Sony wins. Sorry Canon, I loved ya baby!

Canon has always been the leader in picture quality. However, it has the dreaded error 18 to deal with and they won't cover it. IMHO that scares the hell out of a whole bunch of potential and informed consumers. That being said, the failure rate is 4%. That means you have a pretty good chance of never having the problem.... but if ya do, yer gonna be pist :)

I'm kinda debating on whether to get the SD800 or SD750. I can get both for about the same price. Which should I go for?

You're paying for the screen on the SD750. The SD800IS has wideangle 28mm, optical image stabilization, and a optical viewfinder. The SD750 doesn't have any of these, but instead has a 3" LCD. I'd go for the SD800IS (in fact, that's what I did... I own the SD800IS, and love it). The optical image stabilization also helps in low light on non-moving subjects, making the blur in low-light on the SD800IS less than on the SD750.

The SD750 is a great camera, that takes great pictures, especially in good light. But you can get all the features on the SD800IS, including (IMHO) a lot of important other ones, for the same price. Definitely the SD800IS.

No question, the SD800IS is the better camera. The SD1000 has no image stabilization, it has softer pictures from a less clear lens and no 28mm wideangle. The SD800IS has the optical image stabilization, 28mm wideangle lens for more versatility, and better picture quality (some argue it has soft edges as the 28mm wideangle, but that's the zoom I take most of my pictures at, and I haven't run into any visably noticeable corner softness in 4x6" printouts, nor barrel distortion).

The SD1000 is about a 1/4 inch thinner, though, if that means anything.... And about $50 cheaper.
