What is the difference between a SD800 and a SD850? If one is a wider angle than the other, what does that mean?

That's the difference. A wider angle lens. There may be a few other differences. Go to the SD 800 IS Canon site. In the upper right hand corner you'll see a button for "choose the right product." Then, click on "product comparison." A popup window will let you compare up to three cameras for features. This will give you a chance to compare them side by side to see the differences, and more importantly, the similarities. Next, check out this resource. It takes pictures with each and you can compare them side by side.

The bottom line though, is that with the exception of subtle differences, they are essentially the same camera because they're from the same SD line.
