How much did it cost to get your broken LCD screens fixed on the Kodak V803?

My LCD screen broke about about 60 days of ownership. It was in my pocket fine and then I pulled it out a few hours later and it was broke. How much has it cost to have these replaced for other people that have had this happen? Thanks

Bryce, it may still be under warranty. I'd check with Kodak first. With it so close to you're purchase date, if you state your case to them, they may bend and fix it. I'd also check the Kodak website to see if there are any service advisories or recalls pertaining to this issue.

And if you purchased with a credit card, some offer an extended warranty benefit. Talk to your credit card company to see if that's available to you. Absent that, you'll need to contact Kodak about a repair estimate. Be advised, however, that if it's out of warranty, it may cost more to repair than it is really worth. The rule of thumb is that if the estimate for repair is north of 50% what you paid for it, you're better off taking that money and buying a newer and upgraded model.

The same thing happened to me after about 60 days. It is not under warranty by any means. Even if you buy the protection plan, the only thing they don't cover is cracked LCD screens regardless of the reason (at Best Buy).

Has anyone sent it in to get repaired yet who can answer the question of how much it costs?

Thanks.

Kodak's going to have to give you the estimate, Chris as it varies from camera to camera. You could contact them through their website and ask. They have a live chat feature that's pretty good.

I've had the same thing happen.Camera was in my pocket,LCD was broke when I went to take a photo.Kodak pointed me to United Camera& Binocular Corp.Warranty doesn't cover damage by impact which they will probably claim. In the process of contacting United to get the scoop.I might try to repair it myself if I can get the LCD as the backlight is functional. This will void the warranty for sure but it's worth a try since the camera doesn't have a viewfinder and is worthless without the LCD.

Thanks for all the follow up guys. I took it back to Walmart and complained enough to get them to exchange it. Their normal policy is 30 days on cameras though.

LCD screen also broken on our V803 camera only after 3 months use. We totally ignore how this could have happened since we didn't drop it and it is always tucked in its case. Future Shop refuses to take it back saying it isn't covered by warranty.

I think this Kodak LCD screen is very fragile.

Any useful info would be appreciated.

Nancy, have you gotten your credit card company involved? They may have warranty benefits that superceed the warranty offered by Kodak. Or at the very least they may be able to deal with a seller that refuses to take a product back that's obviously defective.

Notified by United Camera & Binocular it will cost $125.00 if they determine it is not covered under warranty. Plus shipping & handling. If you decide you don't want it repaired it will cost you $48 plus shipping & handling to get the broken camera back. I decided to get a new camera with a case.

I think that's a better decision. That way you get a newer model with better features. What did you get?

I'm leaning toward one of the Canons. I had a Canon AE-1 and had good luck with it. Any recommendations?

Well, a similar camera to your Kodak is the SD850. 8 megapixel, 4x optical zoom (better than that 3x) and image stabilization. But it's also using a form of the DIGIC III Image Processor, which is found in their DSLRs. That's a good move, IMHO.

My second one has broken now, and I even had it in a hard case at the time it broke. This camera is extremely fragile, I would not recommend.

Mine broke in two weeks! It was stored in its own safe pocket on the back seat of my vehicle. I did not touch this thing, I went to grab it to take a photo, turned it on and it was toast. No wonder why it was on clearance. It was my first camera I had wanted forever. I feel scamed.

I accidently knelt down on mine and cracked the LCD. Talked to Kodak, and they did not want to sell me the LCD (I have a tech locally that will change it for $25). However, Kodak offered to fix it for $80 (with me providing shipping). The camera still works, I just can't view any display on the LCD.

my brother's girlfried lent me her v803 camera, and i was at an amusement park the camera was in my coat jacker..in it's case and the lcd screen broke, it seemed as if a finger actually broke it, because there was a black spot and a finger print, but i never touched it hard or anything, i mean i was just checking i had it , to take a pic then i noticed it was broken, i see im not the only one with the problem, they should really lower the price, or make better guaranties, because this camera is really fragile and im going to have to pay for a new one. so..TAKE CARE OF YOUR CAMERAS!! because the LCD screen is of very poor quality!!

I called Kodak and I was told it would cost $80 to repair if you're not under warantee. There's also a shipping fee of about $11. In addition you'll be charged $48 for an inspection fee. If you're courageous enough you can call up the parts department and they'll send you an LCD screen you can fix yourself. That'll cost you $35 for the screen and a few more bucks for shipping but there are not instructions on what to do.

So... under warantee $11 for shipping and $48 for inspection. :)
Not under warantee add $80.

The Kodak V803 is a $90 DISPOSABLE. I thought this would be a nice reliable backup camera but the screen cracked after 2 months of service. I never dropped the camera. I felt I took very good care of the camera but I was wrong. The LCD is extremely fragile with comparison to any other camera on the market. I feel ripped off and scammed. Replacement screen running about $40. We should really let our major retailers be aware of the quality of this product because Kodak does not appear to be taking responsibility to a major design flaw on their overpriced product.

Well, I do not know how hard my 4 year old dropped the camera, but I have replaced the LCD with a $25 new screen on eBay, so at least it was a cheap fix.

To Khris, I bought a new LCD screen from ebay as well, but my screws on the v803 don't want to come out so that I can replace it - did you have any problems in this area.

i have a 2 year old V803. It is all functional when one day i openned it up and the LCD is broken. I couldn't think of how it happened. Now, i know this is not just a one time case. I am checking ebay to get a LCD and replace it myself. I hope it can be fixed easily.
