Left SD850 in the rain..will not work after I let it sit for a week in a warm dry place. Is it worth repair?

I like the camera. Went on line and found a place that will repair it for $125 estimate. Prior to turning it on, I removed the SD card and the battery and let it sit for a week on top of my cable box (warm and dry). Charged the battery and put it in the camera. Nothing happens when I hit the "on/off" button. I like the camera but wonder if repair is the right decision since it is a couple years old.

A warm dry place may not leach out enough condensation. Try this ... take a ziplock bag and toss a cup of uncooked rice in it. stick the camera in it and leave it sealed for a few days. The rice will act as a desiccant to draw out excess moisture. I'd also blow some canned air in any orface, use a small pencil eraser to clean corrosion of any contacts.

If you need a repair, $125 isn't bad since the average is $180. Rule of thumb is that if it costs 50% or more of the sale price to fix it, you're much better off getting a new one that will give you more bang for the buck.
