Debating between the SD880IS & the SD890IS

I am debating between the SD880IS & the SD890IS and would appreciate some input. The camera would be for my wife who is a tad bit electronically challenged, as a result ease of use is very important. I like the 3" screen and the wide lens on 880, but wondering if a viewfinder might be a good thing in bright sunlight. Also, like the 5x optical zoom vs the 4x. Both are well reviewed from what I have read.

Thanks
David

Viewfinders on ultracompacts aren't very helpful, since they're so small. If I had to choose (and you're right that both are good cameras), I'd lean toward the SD880. But like you said, both are well reviewed, so you can't go wrong either way.

David, I'd definitely recommend the SD880 over the SD890 for your wife. 2 reasons. 1) ergonomically the 880 fits most peoples hand better as it has the squared off shoulder and the 890 has a IMO dumb rounded over side where you grip it. 2) the 880 uses the latest DIGIC IV processing which will result in quicker shot/write times and handle lower light better. It improves the cameras ability to take great shots. The SD880 has the simplest controls of almost any pocket camera out there. The buttons are huge, easy to access, and the LCD is large and bright even in full daylight. I've been shooting the SD880 for 3 months and it has been great fun and good quality. If you want to see some SD880 shots you can look at my shots from it on my Flikr page here:

You can also compare against the SD990 and the Panasonic TZ5 by looking at the other sets on the page.
