Not according to this blog entry. According to the research done there, this site is the same as 86th street photo which has many consumer complaints against it's parent company:

From the Better Business Bureau:
"According to complaints filed with the BBB, WiseTronics (aka 86th Street Photo) employs bait and switch sales tactics in order to sell more merchandise. After placing an order on-line, consumers receive an e-mail instructing them to call the company to "confirm" their order. Once on the phone, sales representatives try to sell consumers extra batteries, accessories, and warranties, some of which are included with the camera. When consumers decline, their order is cancelled or they are told that their item is not in stock."

This is a common tactic and 86th has been known to change it's websites from time to time to keep potential customers off guard.

Just remember the old addage ... if it sounds to good to be true, IT IS.

Thank you, James. I assumed that the old adage was correct here. I researched the SD880 and the SD990 and think that I will go with the SD880 for the wide angle lens. From what I read, J&R and Costco are both good places to buy. I went to Costco's site last night, and it is a 90 day return policy as I believe Steve had said. Plus, they are offering a 2 gig card for free with the purchase, so I may buy with them. Is that what you would recommend? Thank you for saving me from the CAMERA GIANTS!

If you can buy through Costco, the return policy is the best. No hassle, 90-days to use it before returning it if you don't like. J&R offers a 30-day return. And Amazon.com (direct) also has the same but with both you will pay for shipping if you return. James is right about the Camera Giants site, they are the same rip-off artists as 86th photo in NY.

Thank you, Steve! From reading what all you had said about Costco last night, I went and looked at that info myself, and you were 100% correct, and I liked that idea of "test driving" a camera. I've been stuck with a few that I REALLY didn't like, and this way, I can return it and get the SD990, if it doesn't live up to my expectations. I went to your blog and saw the pictures that you had posted, and though the SD990 pictures did look better in low light, I still think the SD880 is for me with the wide angle lens. I don't have anymore points to award, or I'd be giving you some too for the information about Costco and the other great information that you've posted here. I didn't realize that Costco would be such "fair dealers". Thank you again for all of your helpful information!

Costco is an outstanding place to buy electronics for the very reason that their return policy allows you to try it out and if you don't like it, you can simply return it within 3 months (it used to be up to six!). And adding that 2 GB card is an outstanding deal. Pull the trigger, Smiley!

Thanks, James . . . I'm pulling the trigger and will hopefully soon be testing my SD880 for myself. How can one go wrong with a return policy like that? The 2 gig card makes the deal that much sweeter . . . AND the shipping has been included in the price . . . $269.99. So, with the 90 day return, the free card, and the camera delivered to my door, it is a very sweet deal from a reliable company. I really appreciate all the input and advice from you and Steve for my question and the others that you responded to about the SD880 vs the SD990. It really helped me decide which one to choose. Thanks again!

Camera Giants SCAM - no stock company scheme

I received an email a few days after placing my order asking to call. I received a sales pitch for accessories that were ridiculously expensive. A week later, I received an email that they were out of stock and I would have to wait 3-4 weeks.

Your typical bait and switch. You know the old saying ... if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Cancel the order and report them to the New York Consumer BBB.

Thanks, Art, for posting that info about them. I think that it's better that the word gets out and that folks are saved from the CAMERA GIANTS. Order from Costco. I did on the advice from the folks here, and I certainly don't regret it. It may cost a little more than the CAMERA GIANTS, but I at least get the real mdse. and am not spoofed by the "bait and switch" as James mentioned. Steve and James both recommended Costco, and they have surely steered me in the right direction. Thanks again, Gentlemen!

And the nice thing about Costco is that if you don't like the camera, they have a really nice and liberal return policy even after several weeks.

How Ironic, ordered a 765t GPS from them and had the exact same thing. Email asking me to follow up with a call. After refusing a 2GB memory card for 100 bucks, they sent me an email saying the item was out of stock and it would take 3-4 weeks for it to be IN stock. after 6 weeks, I canceled my order. I also called 86th Street company, in a nut shell, I had the same deal. These guys are very crooked, I'd advise all to shop elsewhere. Good Luck to all!

Thanks for the added info, Mr. Me. I think we can all assume that Camera Giants and 86th Street are both not reputable companies to deal with and very well could be the same company. Bottom line, we all need to shop elsewhere. Many thanks again for your input.

Standard bait and switch. And they're probably selling gray market merchandise to boot! I'd also consider logging a complaint with the NY Consumer affairs department. I'd also remember that old phrase .... if it sounds too good to be true, IT IS.
