I am trying to decide between the Canon SD780, 960 or 1200.

I am trying to decide between the Canon SD780, 960 or 1200. I had a Canon SD800 which was stolen several months ago and have not been able to make a decision as to what to buy since then. I have looked at the digital camera comparisons on many reputable sites and in Consumer Reports. One says one thing, another says another. I like the HD video features of the 780 and 960 and really am interested in high quality photos. The 1200, however, is highly rated but doesn't have HD video. The 780 is highly rated at Digital Camera HQ but is disliked on the Image Resources site. Can someone give me their suggestions?

First thing I would do is go to any of the three listed at the Canon site. In the upper right hand corner you'll see a button for "choose the right product." Then, click on "product comparison." A popup window will let you compare up to three cameras for features. This will give you a chance to compare them side by side to see the differences, and more importantly, the similarities.

Next, check out this resource. It takes pictures with each and you can compare them side by side. Forget the reviews, just look at the image quality from the samples.

And while HD may sound attractive, it won't have improved audio since compact cameras come with tinny, omnidirectional microphones. The thing is, with subtle differences, they're all based on the same SD camera platform.
