Compare the Canon SD990, the SD880 and the Sony T700

I have a one-year old Canon SD850 which I loved. However, I dropped it and the lens error deal happened. I followed all of the posts on this website with no avail and I ruined the camera lense. I need a new camera now. Because of the lens error, I thought I should look at the Sony line. However, its more important to have the best looking photos and quick start up and time between photos (little kids). There is a new version of the Sony T700 (I believe the T900) coming April 1st. What is the recommendation out there for cameras. Even if it isn't one of the mentioned, I would love some expertise. Thanks so much!

If you like touchscreens, go with the Sony T700. I find them awkward at times and prefer to have hard buttons for most functions. But each person is different in the interface they like. If you've used Canons before and liked them, I would recommend the SD880 for a basic auto pocket model, and the SD990 for one with more control over flash intensity, and shutter speed if you want to try a little more creativity in your photos. Canon is just introducing several new cameras like the SD880 with a few more bells and whistles (blink detection/shake the box photo viewer/and a few more MP 12.1 I believe). Nothing out yet that will beat the SD990 in image quality and features though as it is still the only SD (elph) with the larger sensor. Try the touchscreens and see if it works for you. If it doesn't, I strongly recommend the SD880 or the SD990.

Thank you so much for the help with this. I understand that the Sony T900 is coming out april 1st so I want to see what that will look like. I did like my Canon SD850 but the problem I may have going forward is still the lens movement issue. I would love to see if you know about the picture quality between the newer Sony (T900 and the Canon SD990. The actual photos is what is most important along with capturing images quickly.

Thanks again for your help, Steve - I really appreciate it!!!
