Canon SD 990 IS shot to shot time between photos

I currently own the Nikon Cool Pix, but would like to replace it with something newer. I also use the Nikon D60 which I love. I would like to find a camera that has a quick "turnover" time between photos! My biggest concerns are lag time between photos, size of the camera, and battery (which is better). Please help...
I am looking at the Canon SD990 IS. I have also checked into the newer "waterproof" point and shoot camera by Olympus.

I don't have the information handy; you'll have to check the reviews and specs. But be careful to be sure that the tests are done the same way: there are several factors that will affect how long it will take for a camera to be ready for the next shot. Things like the image size and resolution, whether flash is used, even the type of card used to record the image will make a difference.

The size is easy to compare, of course, but battery life is also going to vary depending on the test method.

Penny, I use both a Nikon D50 and a Canon SD990IS. I tried a lot of small cameras out trying to find a "pocket-sized" carry around all the time cameras and finally settled on the SD990 after comparing photo quality, control over the camera, and lag times. If you're used to shooting with a D60, you'll instantly notice when a camera doesn't let you shoot quick follow up shots. I found the Canon (both the SD880 and SD990) had the quickest shot time when taking back to back photos. I shot Panasonic and Nikon and found that the both lock up the camera while it writes to the memory card and there was a couple seconds lag time. Ouch... The SD990 was quick enough that the only time I had to wait was when it was recharging the flash. The 990 also has a continuous mode and shoots 1.6 frames per second and again, I didn't find any lag time shooting that way either. Overall I just found the 990 to be a perfect companion to my Nikon D50. Photo quality is better than the other pocket sized shooters and there is control over the shutter speed, and also over the flash (flash compensation) which is missing in most small camera. I've been a Nikon Cool pix person since the Cool Pix 950, then 990, then 4500, then 5700 and finally moved to a D50. I just felt I needed a smaller camera to take good pictures when I didn't have my D50 with me. It is a very good camera and the once I can heartily recommend, especially when someone is coupling it up with a DSLR. The SD990 is small and light and has great battery life (about 300-350 shots with mixed use of flash). It writes fast to San Disk Ultra Cards and I've had no problem with waiting for the camera for follow ups. I love mine.

If you want to see some of the photos I've taken with the SD990, and also some other camera comparisons, here's my Flikr link:
