Could someone clarify if the Canon SX10 IS takes regular AA batteries, or do you have the option to use a Lithium battery?

I do not want to purchase the camera if it only takes AA batteries.

It only uses AA's, but I think they work just fine. I shot my uncle's wedding with my S5 and I got over a thousand shots on one set of four batteries.

The SX10 IS uses 4 AA-size Alkaline Batteries or AA-size Ni-MH Batteries.

4 AA batteries increase the weight of the camera, however, Ni-MH batteries are less expensive and easier to find than some Lithium batteries.

I agree with Eric that a lot of pictures can be taken before having to recharge, however, I use a lot of power using options and for me 450 to 500 shots at 10MP, super fine, is more realistic.

The memory card is not in the battery compartment, so there is no need to worry about accidents. Battery orientation is well marked.

I concur with Dan: I have the Canon SX10 and have used both AA Alkaline (disposables) and AA NiMH (rechargeables). Highly recommend the Eneloop rechargeables: The rechargeables have given me more than twice the life of the diposables.

No they are not- supposedly alkalines can explode if they are attempted a recharge.

none of you guys mention anything about the mAh type of NiMh battery. I would like to know what's the minimum mAh to get a least a 450 to 500 shots at 10MP, super fine?

Yes Jeff.. shurely you will have to have at least 2000 mah batteries for 500 shots and most of them without flash.. and using flash 2500 mah are good choice
