Well, the SX10 isn't a DSLR. It's called an ultra zoom or bridge camera between point and shoot and DSLR. The think you want to ask yourself is, how serious are you about photography. If you're just wanting a point and shoot to capture those kodak moments, but with some "oomph" to it, then perhaps the SX10 is your baby. But if you want to get into photography as a serious hobby, you'll need a camera that can grow with you. With that, you're better off with the EOS. But you have to think beyond camera. It's a system. As you get more experienced, you may want to transition to a more advanced camera body. You'll then be able to use your lenses with the new body. And if that's the case, it'll pay to save up for another month or two and get what you REALLY want.

thanks james , i want little more help from you. i am serious about photography but its my hobby. i used SLR film camera in past so i am looking at 1000D as it is in budget. but my problem start because the lens provided is not IS as well as sufficient zoom and the same i am getting in SX10 which is not DSLR but closer to it. now i am using A710 and happy with its Av,Tv & M mode as well as i am using Macro mode lot of times and pretty much satisfied. So i can imagine these things in SX10, in addition i am getting 20 X zoom with IS and hot shoe. thats why i am little bit at the side of SX10. but as i never test DSLR, i cant compare it with SX10. so, pls tell me, is SX10 gives similar (or near by ) results as compare to 1000D?
expecting very frank opinion.one more thing, to buy a good SLR camera with few lenses was my long time dream, still today i cant afford it. but i am confident i will get it one day.
thanks. waiting for your reply.

Yes, its really a very good question, D1000 is a SLR and SX10 a point and shoot with lots of zoom range and other features. No doubt the picture quality will be better on D1000 if compared to sx10 .. One more thing, D1000 also allowes your pocket to purchase it. But I opinion is that for a person just entering in photography seriously, after using some small point and shoot cameras of different brand.. instead of D1000 .. SX10 should be the better choice.. Becasue after getting command on SX10 you can go for DSLRs .. Otherwise it may heart you going for DSLR first time.. becasue results will disappoint you .. and your moral may be down.. for not getting good snaps with DSLR.. So I suggest SX10 is the best.. but it will take few days or months for getting desired results.
