While using a tripod IS should be off.. if it is necessary

It is told that while using the tripod IS mode should be off. What is the reason for that ? If any effect on image quality if IS is on ? Please clarify!

Image Stabilization (and vibration reduction) lenses look for vibrations in your camera in order to reduce it - however if they don’t find any (like when you are using a Tripod) they actually can cause it - and as a result actually cause camera shake.

Yes it was really helpful. I was confused why to IS mode be off when using tripod. Thanx a lot. It is really noticeable that if camera has no shake whatsoever, the mechanism installed will search keenly for a shake and may effect the picture quality.
