Optical zoom in video?

Does the SX110 allow for use of the optical zoom while recording a video?

I know this is an unlikely feature but since it's a new product I thought *maybe* Canon could parallel Panasonic models such as the TZ5.

In the release notes and specs from Canon it looks like it doesn't mention whether or not you can zoom during the video, nor do any of the 3rd parties reviews. Since this is a significant upgrade from previous Canon models, it should be mentioned if it was in fact upgraded, so I'm more inclined to say that no, you cannot zoom while recording video.

I called Canon customer service yesterday. The person who answered the phone said that they were not sure, so he checked with a senior technician who said that the optical zoom is available while recording video.

Honestly, sometimes the techs at Canon can be wrong, and its also very possible his misunderstood your question, because I haven't heard of that feature coming out of Canon's products yet. But then again, it could be something they just haven't disclosed. Just to be sure, I'd check with them once again, or another source.

the SX110IS has digital zoom in movie mode ....i have the camera ....i do wish the optical zoom was enabled but i guess we will have to wait for the CHDK guys to hack that for us soon, or canon to firmware update us (not likely )

I use a SX100is and sometimes use the optical zoom, but while viewing the video clips I notice that the zoom has its limits before blurring.
I usually stop the clip, zoom then restart the clip. When you make your movie, just set the transition time just long enough for a smooth connection
