Comparing Canon 2000 6x zoom with SX110 10x zoom

When comparing them at a store, the 6X seemed to zoom in better and closer than the 10X. The salesperson said the SX 110 could be reset, but couldn't do it to get a better zoom than the 2000. Do you think the setting was really out of whack, and what setting would determine or change the zoom?

Pls visit an authorized Canon Digital Camera Dealer. 6x zoom being more powerful than 10x zoom is totally out of question. I have an Olympus FE-340 with 5x zoom and Canon SX110 IS with 10x zoom. The difference is like betwen Cheetah and Lion.

Thank you. I was at a Wal-Mart store, and I think the salesperson wasn't that knowledgeable about all the cameras. What was I thinking?!? I have found a Canon dealer in my area. Your advice is good.
