well since everyone keeps saying it will not be available in North America, does anyone happen to know how i can get one a safe and not to pricy way?

Yeah, wait. The downside with going outside the country is that if anything happens to it, you'll have to ship it outside the country to have it fixed.

Order it from amazon in Europe, or from Ebay (though that's more risky), or pretty much any European site that will ship abroad... a lot of them will. They will charge you a significant amount to ship it (like $50-100), but I guess that's not too bad. I know several Canon loyal customers thinking of doing it, and some in the process of doing it. As for safe, like James said, if it breaks you can't take it to Canon, but you could probably take it to any camera repair shop, the innards of the camera are the same. As for safe in that you don't get scammed, lose your money, get a broken camera because of the shipping, etc etc, its all the luck of the draw.

I'm not saying you definitely won't be able to take it Canon. I've heard customers say they bought a camera in Japan and CanonUSA honored the warranty. But you just have to beware that it's a risk you won't be as lucky.
