HD Video from SX1 IS is not smooth and is jumpy when watched in the computer. How can this be corrected?

I have got a Canon SX1 IS camera. When I shoot HD videos and try to view it in my computer, it is not smooth and the video quality is not as good as I could see in the camera's LCD.
As a note, I am using a class 6 SDHC, so I dont think that the memory card speed would be the cause of the issue.

I have found that while my 2.0GHz CoreDuo laptop running Vista cannot play the videos in Photoshop (which uses Quicktime) or in the Apple Quicktime player. I have found, however, that NERO showtime (part of the NERO package) is able to play the MOV files smoothly when I copy the files to a local drive first. It's not a good solution, but for now, at least i can play them. I guess computers will just have to get more powerful by the time these 1080p videos are ready for watching!
