Between this camera and the SX110 IS ?

I recently thought I would buy the sx110 in june (over the s2000HD from fuji) because of the better low-light shooting that (apparently) is not very good on the Fuji. I like my camera to be a very well rounded camera... Not necessarily needing EXCEPTIONAL quality in one area. Well I found this camera today: Thinking it might drop to $300-ish in mid-June. What do you guys think would be the advantage to this camera over the SX110 IS ?

I guess the biggest point to make is: Is it worth it? Is there something in between?

Like I said: I like a well rounded camera, but one other thing: I am reeealllly looking for manual controls! So anything I like at would have to have some manual control... And obviously I am looking in this camera category of Extended Zoom so... you know what I'm looking for.

While you'll get an extra 2x zoom, I don't think that's really all that big a deal. And the additional 2MP won't even be noticed in 95% of your pictures. So for an additional $150, I just don't see the advantage in waiting.

I like the point you make. And there's no guarantee I'll get it here in Canada for $350. If I can, then do you think the high-def movie mode, and the DIGIC 4 processor will make it worth the buy?

You guys may or may not know this already: Proprietary battery on the SX200 ... I just found this out and, despite leaning towards the SX200 before, I refuse to buy something like a camera with proprietary parts. I hate it when Mac does it with their computers, and so I won't support a camera that does the same thing.

I think it will. But if you consider the battery a deal breaker ...

I bought the SX110 IS and I loved it except for these things:

1. Had to manually raise the flash
2. No HD Video recording
3. 4+ second delay after using flash

It looks like the new model can take HD Video (30 minute clips at a time). It also appears to have a flash that will pop up if needed. I don't know if the delay is fixed in the new model but it better be. Along with the increased zoom and resolution it was worth me selling the SX110 IS on ebay and pre-ordering the new one. By the way, i was able to sell it on ebay for $30 more than i paid. :-)

Sorry to say, but shutter delay will still be there, although with the new DIGIC IV processor, the delay should be shorter than previous models. It's just the nature of the beast in point and shoot digital cameras as they process the image rather than capture it.

Digital SLRs still shoot using mirrors and direct exposure to the CMOS chip, and as such, shutter lag isn't an issue.

despite all my whining and complaining about the battery type, I ended up going with the FZ28, buying it off the internet at a much lower price than I would have received at he store. Thanks anyways everyone!

if you'll gonna cough up $350 ++ for an sx200 (w/ proprietary battery)... buy a 2nd hand Nikon D40 instead, it's still a proper DSLR despite having half of the MP (and maybe, marry a AF-S 18-135mm lens)...bet you the battery last longer..
But for a compact camera, w/ nice to have, just incase 10X zoom; and esp. for $200 only, go for the SX110.

I got my new SX200 IS last friday and it's everything I had hoped for and more.

1. The flash is fully automatic now.
2. HD video recording is excellent.
3. The after flash shot delay is much shorter, about two seconds now.
4. The pictures are amazing thanks to the image stabilization, automatic scene detection, blink detection, face detection, and on and on and on.
5. Battery life is incredible. I have taken tons of pictures and over an hour of HD video and the battery is still showing full.

If you are looking for a camera that gives you more than a point and shoot but aren't advanced enough (like me) for a DSLR then this is the camera for you!

BTW, I also purchased a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5 to test and if you don't care that you can only record eight minutes of HD at a time and want to save $100 then you should definitely pick the TZ5 over the SX110 IS.
