I have some old Cannon FL and FD lenses. Will they fit on the digital Canons and work in some sort of manual stop-down metering mode?

ADDITIONAL CLAFIFICATION FOR ORIGINAL QUESTION RE: FL AND FD LENSES......I'm looking to buy my first entry level SLR digital camera and was looking at the Canon 350D or 400D. I'm hoping to be able to use some of my old lenses and a slide copier which have the old Canon bayonet mount.

As far as your lens goes, if you attach the FL and FD lenses, normally you would have a problem with the optical quality, because of the light not traveling through the adapter and then to the mirror on the camera correctly. This has been the problem up until recently, but now there is word that a company Hama, made an adapter that fixes the optical quality, Mfr# HA30845. This should also compensate for the metering problem that most adapters have. Check it out, and if you end up going with it, let us know how it works. Hope this helps, if you have any other questions feel free to ask.

As far as whether to go 350D or 400D, it really just depends if the price is worth it to you. The 400D is usually $500 more than the 350D. The 400D has a new static cleaning system, which is supposed to be much better. It also has more megapixels (10 vs 8), more continuous shots (27 vs 14), and a better autofocus (9 points vs 7 point).

Thanks for the info on this. I gather from what you are saying that the old bayonet mount of the FD and FL lenses is substantially different than the lens mount on the 350 D and that an adapter is necessary to even attach it to the camera. I'll check on the Hama adapter and see what they offer if I decide to try to use the old lenses. I might be better off advertising them on Ebay and using the proceeds to buy a newer lens for the 350D.

Thanks again........Mark
