!CARD NOT INITIALIZED

Today, after owning this camera for 3 years, I get this message that says "!CARD NOT INITIALIZED". I cannot use the camera at all. What's going on??

I'd try reformatting the memory card- you should be able to do this through the menu on your camera. I believe you have to be in Playback Mode, then there is a menu that has the option to reformat card.

Here is a very similar discussion about the same problem w/ a Fuji camera that might help.

Great... glad it worked! That apparently happens sometimes with memory cards... they just need to start from scratch.

Thanks....same thing happened to me today....and I've had the camera for several years also.....I guess it was just time for a fresh start, but I was not finding the right menu.

My camera died (low battery) while I was in the process of downloading... when I changed the batteries, I got the dreaded "Card not initialized" message... I have followed the directions above, but it tells me that if I click OK on the reformat option, all my data will be lost. I have about 50 pictures that weren't downloaded, and I don't want to lose them.
Any other options?

Great. So after your stupid card stops working, you have no choice but to erase existing photos. Nice camera -- I'll never buy anything from Fuji again. I used this camera for three years. Then I tried a new card reader, got the errormessage, and followed these hints and erased my photos -- I could see no other option. This is a serious flaw and a seriously flawed camera manufacturer.

The darn dreaded message came up on my camera todaaaay :/
ANNOYED!
Thanks Brenda, but i still want all my photo's :(
i had like 100 to put on and it comes up with 'CARD NOT INITIALIZED' - grrr!
spose i have to start agaaaaain, not happy!
