What batteries can be used in the f20?

OK, as part of the "purchase confirmation" process for the F20 the salesman said I had the option of buying a 2-hour or 4-hour battery for the F20, and claimed the F20 ships (maybe it does from his company) with a 20-minute battery. That plus a few other things (like a price increase for the camera when I refused most options) led me to cancel the order.

But that leaves a question: will the larger-capacity battery delivered with the F30 fit in and work with the F20? I assume I will purchase a 2nd battery. It simply seems to me to make good sense to purchase one of higher capacity than the original battery, if the higher-capacity battery will work. It also makes good sense to have two batteries: one in use, one as a spare. Three is nice, but if I use the camera as the charger then two seems like enough.

A lot of these onliners with CHEEP prices, do the 'great battery switch' routine. I've heard this story at least 4 times in the last 4 weeks. "Oh--you don't want THAT battery---you want the one that's better, blah blah blah." Truthfully, I know of no Li-Ion batteries that only last 20 minutes. So, any poor sap that agrees to an 'upgrade' battery is just being a sucker for an added price, and ends up for the original factory battery.

The F20 and the F30 reportedly have the same CCD sensor, so are they similar. I suspect that the two batteries are interchangeable. Why don't you call or e-mail Fuji?

The F20 uses the Lithium-Ion (NP-70), while the F30 uses the Lithium-Ion (NP-95). I believe these are different sizes (as well as different power levels) and are NOT interchangeable.

I don't know, I can't seem to find any info on sizes. Guess you could go to Best Buy and compare.

Well, actually, seaching for "NP-70 dimensions" and "NP-95 dimensions" I found pages that indicated they both are 0.2 x 6 x 5.5.

But I'm still not sure.

My experience with Lithium-ion batteries on Sony camcorders is this: the larger capacity batteries, are larger physically. The way Sony handles this is to make the battery width the same, but change the DEPTH---so that they all can fit on the back of the camera. So a two-hour battery, would be twice as thick as a one-hour battery, and just sticks out the back of the camcorder a wee bit more.

However, a mfg. could certainly use a given size 'case', and not fill it to capacity with battery components. So, maybe the NP-95 battery is FULL, while the NP-75 size is not quite full.

I and some others had a discussion last week about the CCD sensor on these two Fuji cameras. Both cameras have identical sensors--and yet, the F30 has a higher ISO rating! Sounds like some marketing fudging to me. If they are fudging on the ISO, then who knows what's going on with the batteries.

A bit late but still might be of use to someone. If you look at the two batteries side by side ( NP-95 and NP-70 for F20 ) you will see that although someone said they are of identical size the three metal conectors at the bottom of each battery are spaced differently on the two batteries. On the NP-95 the plastic gap between the conectors are larger so unfortunately the battery may fit the F20 but the connections would not marry up with the camera so you will just have to buy a spare if you think you need to take more than 300 pics before recharge.
