Can't I get a super zoom without all the noise>

I'm relatively new to digital photography and but I'm a retired photographer so good sharp pictures in varuous situations are important. I don't want to carry all of the accessories, bodies, lenses, etc anymore. I've been looking at super-zooms but every one of them have problems with noise at mid to high ASA's. I'm told this is because of the chips. I'm also told that D-SLR's don't have the same problem. Why doesn't someone put a D-SLR chip in a super-zoom camera? Please educate me.

The ' chip ' that you mention is the sensor that replaces the film in the old days.
It is true that dSLRs have larger sensors and super zooms have smaller sensors. If superzooms were fitted with large sensors, it will narrow the gap between dSLRs and superzooms and raise their prices so much that many people will opt for dSLRs and dump superzooms.

Superzooms have been labeled as a 'Bridge camera' by some, something in between dSLRs and compacts to cater for customers who want the zoom power of dSLRs but pay the price of a 'high class' compacts.

For it to survive as a viable commercial product, I suppose it just has to remain what it is designed for, as a 'bridge'.

I appreciate your reply but I've seen some D-SLR's that are cheaper than the Super-zooms. You won't get some features such as stabilizers, or the same focal length range, and a few of the Super-zooms advertise themselves as being up to D-SLR quality, so I guess it's just a matter of time before D-SLR sensors are less expensive. I'll see if I get any more responses, but yours is the best yet.
