OK except in cold weather

I was excited about the gift of the s3000. I went to take pictures of the grandchildren after the first snowfall in January. The temperature was 29 degrees. The camera functioned for about 10 minutes and then began sending error messages and would not work again until I warmed it up. How disappointing! I have also found a few annoyances that others have found: noisy zoom, impossible to read the LCD monitor in bright sunny weather, annoying time delay between activating the camera and the actual picture taken, etc. Anyone else experience this camera malfunction in cold weather?
