help, my s5000 won't take pictures, all I get is a white screen, with no image, it will take a picture but that is white too!

the camera will display pictures that are saved to my memory card, but when I switch to take a photo, the screen is blank, just white, no image. Apart from that, everthing else is working properly, I have re-charged the batteries but that didn't make any difference

Are you sure the shutter speed isn't set to a long time, along with the aperture being large? If the shutter speed is too long, and the aperture too large, there will be too much light in the picture and it may appear white.

You may want to try resetting the camera - This is a fairly easy procedure which involves either going into your setup menu and choosing "reset," or, removing the batteries for a few minutes. After which, you should have the camera reset to factory default settings.

Another tip is to go to the camera's support website and look for firmware updates. Download and install them. If that doesn't work, then you may have to send it in for a repair estimate.

Be advised, however, that if it's out of warranty, it may cost more to repair than it is really worth. The rule of thumb is that if the estimate for repair is north of 50% what you paid for it, you're better off taking that money and buying a newer and upgraded model.

Believe it or not, I put my camera in the frig for a couple of hours and it fixed it! Go figure. I friend recommended this to me because it has worked with his laptop.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed though.....
