Screen is different shades of pink

Last night I put batteries in the camera and switched it on - the finepix logo comes on as normal then the screen goes different shades of pink - this is the same when I try using the eye viewer. the camera will take a picture but the photos are the same as the views on the screen and eye views [pink]

I dont know what has happend to it - I used the camera on Sunday and the pictures were as you would expect, as usual practice, after downloading the pictures I took the batteries out and put the camara into it's case

Hi there,
The pink streaks you are describing sound a lot like an image sensor (aka CCD sensor) gone wrong. This will result in multiple colored streaks in the image and sometimes no image at all.
Here's where it gets a little tricky. Awhile back, there was a recall on multiple cameras from all manufacturers, because some that were made between 2002-2004 had faulty CCds, and this problem was happening to everyone. At that time, there was a list released of the affected models, which the companies would fix for free (http://www.imaging-resource.com/badccds.html). Here's the tough part: the S5000 is not listed as being affected by this, but I did a quick Google search and found a few other people out there who had bad sensors in their S5000s. One of them even said "if enough S5000 owners complain maybe they will add it to the Defective list."

So... my advice on this, is to give Fuji a call (here's their specific release on the recall), and talk to them. It may be possible that they will also repair an S5000 free of charge- I haven't heard of any such development, but it may be worth a conversation. If they won't, and if they are sure that the S5000s were not affected by the recalled CCds, the least you can get from them will be some troubleshooting (there's still a chance the CCD ISN'T the problem, and they should be able to help diagnose it) or possibly a quote on a replacement sensor if you decide you want to go ahead with it.

Good luck.

BrendaP again I show my stupidity - as you probably know I put the best answer award into my own entry.

I have emailed the staff and explained what I've done and requested to ensure you receive the dues you are entitled too

I'm very sorry - I will try to concentrate a wee bit harder in future and not show myself as a silly old fart.

May you be happy, healthy, wise and wealthy

Hello All

I've owned a S5000 Zoom for the past 4 years without any problems. Hey Presto a few days ago I went to use it and found the display on the LCD to be very distorted and displaying only pink and green colouring. When viewed through the viewfinder the image was the same distorted mess. I've been told that the problems is terminal and due to moisture getting into the circuitry, although my camera has never been exposed to any adverse storage or utilisation. I have mailed Fuji twice but have not received a reply to date. I'm really disappointed with the lack of response from Fuji, and even more disappointed to be without my camera, because I have had some great results with it.

Everybody -- Fuji has fixed my camera for free. I talked with a Fuji rep and explained the blogs that described the problem. They said that if I sent the camera to them, and the problem was the CCD sensor they would fix it for free. I mailed them the camera at my expense, and got it back a couple of weeks later. Fantastic customer service and follow through. The camera works like before.

I just talked to New Jersey repair center. He wouldn't say if it was covered or not, just that I had to send it in.

Since my last posting I have contacted Fuji here in the UK about the problem. I discussed the problem with a very unsympathetic technical service guy who agreed that there had been a problem with CCD circuitry (apparently supplied by Sony), however the faulty CCDs were never fitted to the S5000 Zoom, and Fuji were not prepared to repair the camera free of charge. They will repair it for £89.95 and give me another years warranty on it, or offer me a trade in value of £36 if I want to upgrade to another camera. Pathetic Customer Service Fuji and an arrogant member of staff!

Colin, send it to New Jersey. They fixed mine at no cost. They kept me updated as to when they received it and sent it back.

Thanks for the update BH. I will take this up with Fuji in the UK again and ask why there seems to be different rules for different countries. Interestingly I purchased my S5000 from the States, so maybe I should send it back for repair.

Same thing has happened to my S5000 this weekend, completely out of the blue.
I've arrived on this forum after searching online & finding that it appears to be a fault with the image sensor - a problem that has occured in a lot of digital cameras by various manufacturers, and that has been repaired free of charge in many cases, due to the fact the manufacturers acknowledged the fault was 'inherent'.

I'm going to contact Fuji (UK) in the morning .....
If they try to fob me off, I may try throwing the "Sale of Goods Act 1979" at them .... may be a long shot, but worth a try.
According to the Sale of Goods Act 1979, goods should be 'Fit for purpose' ... ie: not inherently faulty at the time of sale.

I'll post back an update.

I have had same problem with the S5000. I contacted Fuji UK and they say that as it's not a recalled model they would charge me for the repair. I sent them an email at fujitec@fuji.co.uk putting links to forums of people complaining about the ccd issue. I will insist about the issue and I urge everyone that has this problem to contact fuji at the email address.

I also have the Fuji S5000. I have had it for several years without any problems. Then last night I turned it on and the LCD screen in green and stipey. I reck on it's the same issue. I am gonna chase this up with fuji. Looks like there is a real issue here and as has been said before if enought compalin then there is more chance of a free fix.

Has anyone in the U.S. had any further luck with this issue being resolved for free by Fuji, needless to say my S5000 is now having the same problems. I love the camera but am not willing to sink a lot into repairs considering the cost of the newer cameras have dropped so much.
