Looking thru view finder and every thing is white. Won't do anything!

I have a Fuji Film S5000 FinPix camera. turn it on and look thru the either the view finder or the screen and all you see is white. We've tried everything to get it to working but so far nothing. Do you have any idea what the problem is? If so, is it worth having the camera fixed or to just buy a new one?

Brenda P in another similar thread points to the likely culprit being a bad CCD. But it could also be just a corrupted firmware. First thing I would do is reset the camera. This is a fairly easy procedure which involves either going into your setup menu and choosing "reset" (or intialize), holding down the menu key for 5 seconds, or, removing the batteries for a few minutes. It may be that the firmware loading got corrupted and the camera just needs to be "rebooted," which is something that turning it on/off won't accomplish. But after which, you should have the camera reset to factory default settings.

Another tip is to go toFuji's website and look for firmware updates. Download and install them.

If that doesn't work, then it may be you have a bad CCD or the camera just needs to be serviced. It's over 5 years old now after all.
