my s5000 is about 3 years old. This week I turned it on but on image on the LCD screen Any hope? + it sounds like it is taking a picture but not

The camera is 4 years old. I had an other problem with the lens would not zoom--repaired it for $100. The camera is great when it workes, easy. I have additional lenses--wide angle, telephoto. But am I sending good money after bad? rrails@msn.com

I'm not really sure what the problem is that you're describing. Do you mean NO image on the LCD screen? Try resetting the camera. Check the batteries and the contacts and clean, if necessary. Lastly, since the camera is 5 years old (made in 2003) going on 6, it may be time to move on to another camera model.

Without warranty coverage, the average cost of a camera repair is around $180. The rule of thumb is that if the estimate for repair is north of 50% what you paid for it, you're better off taking that money and buying a newer and upgraded model.
