Probably a failing/faulty CCD. Good news is, that Fuji should repair it for free as it was part of a recall a few years back for faulty Sony CCDs that were used. Check with the fuji website for a service advisory on it and send it in for repair on their dime!

Bad news for those trying to get their Fuji S5000 repaired for free. I sent in my s5000 over 2 weeks ago and called today to find out what was taking so long. At first, I was told I had a broken battery door (?) and that there was something wrong with the screen. Uh, yeah, that's why I sent it in to be repaired - because the screen went purple for a few days and then completely white!! I was told it would be an estimated $115.00 to fix.

I questioned what the exact problem was, was it the CCD or not, and she said she didn't know & put me on hold. Five minutes later, the customer service rep returned to the phone and told me that it *was* the CCD but they wouldn't repair it for free, that the charge was est. $115.00! So, if they are supposed to repair the faulty CCDs for free, evidently they are trying to charge me $115.00 for a broken tab on the battery door, which btw, still shuts and locks and works completely FINE!

I'm obviously not sinking $115.00 into a camera that is this old, especially when I've read on numerous websites that Fuji has repaired other CCD issues for free. I just think it's BS that they can get away w/ charging for something that should be fixed for free due to a freaking recall!
