You may have a loose battery cover which is causing the problem. Also try cleaning the contacts. And double check that your batteries are indeed fresh. Often, when you purchase batteries in bulk, it isn't uncommon that some or many of them are near dead or worse. Batteries bought in bulk tend to have a long turnover and such, can lose much of their battery power before they are used. And many batteries such as AAs are general purpose batteries and are not designed for the high energy use of digital cameras and the flashes they trigger. As such, I recommend using high energy batteries designed for digital photography. Varta is a good brand. They are usually sold in camera shops, are long lasting (because they are sold in small quantities) put out alot of energy.

At the very least, make sure you are using Alkalines.

Since my last post, I have been told my camera was left outside in the rain ( I let my BIL use it ).
Should I take it to a camera shop, or is it a lost cause? :(

Thanks in advance.

Well, it's definitely wet, but it may not be a lost cause (though there's a good chance it might be). I've heard of A Washington Post reporter who accidentally dropped his Blackberry in the toilet was able to retrieve it and dry it out to working order again: by leaving it turned off in a bowl of uncooked rice.

Reader Chris writes in to say:

There's a grain of truth (punny, huh?) to this in that rice quickly sucks up the surrounding moisture. Make sure the environment is free from excess humidity, drop the wet device in a container of rice and let it sit. For a better desiccant, it'd be a good idea to store all those little silica gel packets that come in anything from shoe boxes to moisture-sensitive gadgets.

Thanks.
I took the back off and looked for corrosion.. I found a battery ( small like a hearing aid battery ) corroded. I took it out, cleaned all around it. Can or should I get another battery. That is the only place I found corrosion.

Thanks again for your help.

Absolutely. Fresh batteries are the way to go after cleaning off the corrosion.

Where do I get a battery that will fit. It's much thinner than a regular hearing aid battery.

Thanks again for all your help!

Well, I'd check the specs and contact technical support for that. once you know, you can find them probably at any camera store or electronics store.
