This camera does have 5.7 digital zoom, but way more important than that is the 10x optical zoom. The difference is that optical zoom is when the lens physically moves in order to zoom in on an object, while digital zoom is when the camera electronically compensates by "blowing up" an image, much like editing software does, in order to get a closer zoomed-in view of it. As you can imagine, digital zoom results in a degradation of image quality, and my opinion is that it's more a gimmick to sell cameras than it is anything else. It can come in handy at certain times, but with 10x optical zoom I seriously doubt you'd find much use for the digital.
Not sure why they stated that this digital zoom is more effective; in my opinion the 10x optical zoom is what sells this particular camera.
