Great bang for the buck
( - 8/29/05)Great camera for the advanced amateur. Not to be used as a primary unit for a professional.
Reasons to buy this camera are simple:
Very nice ergonomics. Nothing in the wrong place.
Very nice features and quite flexible.
Good to very good picture quality. On par with my old Canon Rebel, decent lenses, and good film.
Reasonable price, especially now that it has been discontinued in favor of the s9000.
White balance: lighting is what it's all about. Bad lighting = Bad pics. Except if you know the work around for a large percentage of pics.
Solution: buy the Expo Disc and set up custom white balances. It's also known as "photographer's bling":=) Words don't do it justice. Go see the results @: http://www.expodisc.com/
Bonus: this camera has 2 custom white balances!
What this camera isn't: a replacement for a big buck digital slr. If you need that, then break down and spend the money.
Still here?
Added bonus: the Auto mode gets a big thumbs up in the "Wife Acceptance Factor", waf;) She isn't intimidated by the camera in the slightest. And that's the whole point, isn't it?
