First at all, check your OS. Windows earlier than W98SE, doesn´t recognize USB ports automatically. If your SO is Higher than W98SE (well,...I´m assuming that you are using Windows...), you can try by checking the USB port, i.e., if you have an USB printer, just try to print anything, If works, your USB port is working fine, so, use this port to check your S700. S700 configures as an external drive when connected, you can simple drag and drop image files from your camera to your pics folder without the need of any software. In fact, bundled software is ...mhhh...how can I say it to you...mmmhhhh...not so good as desired. I found Fuji software as a bad utility for downloading and processing pics.
Words apart, let me suggest you to uninstall the Fuji´s software and use the explorer for navigate and copy the pics.

Jennie, don´t hesitate to ask me any question about this issue
Hope this helps!
