camera won't power on- new batteries - now power light stays red

camera was working fine one minute then suddenly went black and would not power back on. put new batteries in but camera will not power on. nothing seems to be working except the power indicator light which stays red.

Often, this is due to underpowered batteries which don't put out enough juice to run the camera. You can't really use "heavy duty" or even "alkalines" anymore. Digital cameras require far more bang for the buck (measured in mAh). I'm betting you have underpowered batteries. You'll want to have batteries that have an mAh of at least 2500 to run your camera.

As for it "suddenly going black," can you elaborate? Was this just the batteries going dead or was this the result of a particular action? More details can shed more light on the issue.
