what makes the 8100fd rate so much lower than S8100

Since the cameras are very close in specs why is the 8100 rated so poorly? It has duel stabilization, more zoom, dbl the frames per sec. than the 8000 which your reviewers like with a grade of strong B. What is it that the reviewers don't like about the 8100? Is it the price?

Simple. It's brand new. Often, when a camera comes out, if it gets a few early reviews the ratings can get skewed. After a few more weeks or months, the real ratings begin to assert themselves more accurately. This happened with the Olympus SP560UZ which came out with a low C rating off the bat but now has a more accurate A-. The great irony is that as the camera gets older, it may dip again in comparison to newer, more upgraded models.

I wouldn't purely go by ratings when checking a camera out. Read user reviews, editors reviews, etc. Get a more balanced, rounded view of how the camera really performs.

Thanks for the input. I just bought the camera and think it is pretty sharp. I am not a professional photographer but I enjoy taking pictures and this model lets me do a lot more than anyhing else I have used.
