format error

Quick note:

I also received the "Format Error" message. This happened when i was trying to look at the saved photos on my camera and i plugged it into the USB. Well everything was fine and I could see the pictures, but then i believe what messed it up was unplugging the USB before turning off the camera. Next time i turned on the camera, I received the error. The computer would not even read the drive anymore when it was plugged in.

To fix this, i used the format command on the camera, which erased all of my photos. I then used the software program (PC Inspector smart recovery), and it found all my deleted photos.

Anyways, just posting this to hopefully provide a fix for anyone with the "Format error" message. Highly recommend PC inspector. Trustworthy, and will find the photos even after you format and erase.
