It is not reading the memory card says things like not formated error card or no card. I have formated the card, I have tried more than one card.

also says protected card. camera will take pictures on it's internal memory. about 3. We have two Cameras and it is doing this on only one. So I have tested the cards on the other camera. I have checked the settings but can not find something that says anything about internal memory only.

Hi there,
If you're getting a message that says Protected Card, here's what you should check for: take the card out of the camera and look at the card itself; there may be a small switch on the side of it. It's a little tab-shaped piece of plastic that slides back and forth to unlock/ unprotect the card. Slide it to unlock and try again, and see if that fixes the problem.

If it doesn't, it is possible that the card you're using isn't compatible with the camera, either in type or in MB. Let me know if you still have the problem, and if so what type of card you're using and whether it worked in the other cameras.

Thank you for your response, I had purchased this same camera new a few years ago. The second camera I purchased used on-line. The used camera is actually newer than my original. It was purchased for my spouse so we could exchange batteries, cards without the need for different readers chargers and such. The new to me camera purchased used on-line is the camera that is not accepting the memory cards. They work perfectly in our 1st original camera. Yes, I have checked the lock and all the cards are unlocked. I have tried two different 32 mb cards and one 256 mb card. It will take one picture with it's own memory, but this camera will not load to our computer. It is not the computer, because the other, original camera will. Each card and cord and plug works for our original camera ONLY. The problem is the second used camera that I purchased on-line does not accept any of our memory cards.

Are all the cameras the same model? Even if they are, the problem may just be that the card hasn't been formatted in that particular camera, so it's not recognizing it. Sometimes when you switch a card from one camera to another, you have to format it in the new camera just so that everything is recognized (especially if they are different models). This is, of course, a pain if you want to save photos, as formatting erases them, but check and see if you're able to do it (use the menu in the camera that the card isn't working with, choose Format, see if it functions). If it's still not working... let me know what models you're dealing with here and I'll look into it more!

Thank you. My original camera that I purchased directly from Gateway is a DC-T50 version 0.21. The second camera that I purchased on line used is a DC-T50 version 1.18. Yes, I did try formating in both camera's. The second camera did not reconize that there was a disc to format or would come back disc error. I have gone through the manuals and have not been able to answer why. I have reset all the settings on the second camera to match the first camera. It almost seems like the second camera has been set to take only pictures with it's internal memory. I have not found anything in the book where this is a setting that can be turned off or on. I am totally baffled.

The internal memory is going to work no matter what, so I can see how it is seeming like it is set to use just that. Probably what is really happening is the camera just isn't recognizing the memory card at all, so it's behaving as though all it has is the internal memory. The question (obviously) is why isn't it recognizing the memory card. Usually the problem when that happens is with the card, but since yours are working fine in another camera, then we know that's not it.

I did some reading, and I found a review by a user (here; the page is a little confusing at first, but your camera is identical to the Toshiba one pictured there, and he is talking about yours in his post) who mentioned that he had the same problem you are having- the card reads as protected even when it's not and the camera can't recognize it. He says that just powering off the camera and turning it back on solved it for him, but I have the feeling that isn't working on yours (although feel free to try it; even pull the batteries for a few minutes, then put them back in and power back up. Sometimes that works better than a Reset). But at least now we know it's an issue that the camera has and that it's not something you are missing/ a weird setting etc. I did check for firmware updates, but you have the current one on this camera and none of the updates (for Toshiba or Gateway) mention this issue, so I don't think that's it.

You have already done a reset, which is often the best way to clear error codes; maddeningly, after looking through the entire Gateway site I'm not finding any help on this. I hate doing this, but I think I'm going to have to advise you to give Gateway a call (try 800-369-1409). We've exhausted all the possibilities that it's something you can fix, so based on that (as well as that other user's post) it seems to be a camera error. Although they aren't offering support and updates on this camera anymore, they may still be able to troubleshoot you over the phone if it's something easy, or else offer you a repair. Sorry I can't be more helpful than that!
