My camera just stopped focusing. The screen has mottled fuzzy vertical columns. Menu screen is ok.

I wondered if this was a familiar problem perhaps correctable as a programming error w/o sending to repair. How big a repair problem does it appear to be?

Hal,

It sounds like some of your electronic functions of the camera have gone bad. Did the camera get wet, or was it dropped? Having it repaired would probably be comprable to buying a new camera. You might look through some of the ultra compact cameras on DCHQ to see what would be a good replacement. Good luck.

I found good conversational help from WWW://HP.CCM.com/go/totalcare Unfortunately the diagnostic tests implied that it is mechanical. They made a trade in offers for updated refurbished cameras starting at $100.
