Since this camera is around 5 years old, the warranty is obviously expired. As such, unfortunately, it would probably cost more money than it's worth. If you like the camera, I'd just tape it back on and live with it. Otherwise, you're better served to take the money you'd spend on repairing it and buy a better camera.

Don't spend any money getting this camera fixed. If the battery door is on the bottom just get a small piece of metal with a 1/4" hole in it from Lowe's or any hardware store. The metal needs to be just long enough to cover the battery door and no wider than the camera is. Also from Lowe's purchase a thumbscrew bolt (the hardware guy will know what you need if you explain it and take your camera to the store too). The bolt will need to be 1/4" in diameter with threads to fit the tripod mount on the bottom of your camera. It has to be short enough (or you have to cut it down or add washers) so that it will tighten up against the metal bar and hold the battery door closed. Of course, you won't be able to use a tripod with your camera but you will be able to hold the battery door closed.
If the battery door is on the side of the camera, then you have to buy a 90 degree angle bracket with the same idea in mind to hold the door closed with the bracket going around the corner from the bottom to the side and the bolt still holding the bracket underneath.
I had to do this on my F100 Minolta for 2 years before I gave up on it and got a new camera.
Good luck.

Hello James,
Thanks. The young man at Lowe's helped me rig it up. It really worked well other than blocking being able to use the tripod.
Moving from that to the Canon G9 was a pretty dramatic improvement. LOL.
