Incredible Outdoor Pictures - Awful Battery Problems

I bought this camera to replace the older model that my niece broke - the last was a Kodak which worked great and I wanted to be able to use the same accessories (docking station, and software, etc.) so I purchased this one. We have tried several rechargable batteries and can't find any that work - the camera takes 6-7 pics at most before turning off. It's frustrating! But we get the most beautiful outdoor pictures from the camera so I want to hang onto it and it's easy to use. Hopefully we'll get this charging situation fixed so that we can keep it.
