My camera locks up when reviewing pictures and can't be turned off except by removing batteries.

A new memory card and fresh batteries don't eliminate the problem.

Sounds like a software glitch. It may be fixable with an upload from Kodak's website, if they still support the camera. Call Kodak immediately.

After contacting Kodak several times and using their internet trouble shooting guide and jumping through all their email and telecon hoops, the camera remains essentially useless. Their answer was return the camera and they'll repair it for more than I what I can buy a new C340 on the internet. Just think, I can have another useless C340 in my junk pile in another year and a half. Wow, what a deal!

That's BS. Removing the batteries is a soft restart, which has to be software issue. Don't give up, keep at 'em until they update their firmware. Threaten the BBB or Attorney General if you have to :)

Dear Matt,
You may be on to something with a software problem and I"ll contact Kodak again if I don"t hear back from you on this, my latest reply to you. Up to now I've used the camera for 1 1/2 yrs. with no problems. Could it be that a "review" switch electrical short/problem could result in a fault signal to the software? I did note on some other net site someone claiming that Kodak had/has problems with their switches on their "C" models. Is it reasonable to expect software problems after using the photo review function numerous times and then suddenly have it behave in this bizarre fashion?

Do you happen to have Vista or Windows XP, or have hooked the camera up via USB or updated its software? It's possible there's a faulty switch that ruins your review mode, but if that's the problem, they'll probably charge you half the cost of a new camera to fix it (like you said) and that's just not worth it at all. We need to exhaust all alternatives. Unfortunately, that's the last thing I can think of, that you somehow updated bad software into the camera. If not... it may be up to you to decide how much you want to threaten Kodak to at least repair it for no cost. If you found other users who have the same problem as you, site your sources to them. If they smell a lawsuit they may silence you by just fixing it for you free of charge.

Good luck :)

Thanks Matt. I'm going to read all the reviews and then make a decision. I've never had the camera connected to the USB port nor to any computer unless reading the memory card (without the card being loaded in the camera) with my Dell Adobe photo shop could ever change the loaded camera software. Thanks again.
